Second Chance of New Mexico (Scientology) talks about hiding violent felons

WARNING! Second Chance uses the dangerous and useless sauna detoxification system made up by L. Ron Hubbard! "[The court record is] replete with evidence that Scientology is nothing in reality but a vast enterprise to extract the maximum amount of money from its adepts by pseudo scientific theories... and to exercise a kind of blackmail against persons who do not wish to continue with their sect.... The organization clearly is schizophrenic and paranoid, and this bizarre combination seems to be a reflection of its founder, L. Ron Hubbard." -- Judge Breckenridge, Los Angeles Superior Court

AFL star admits to links with Melbourne underworld figure

December 18th 2008 Channel 9 news- Ben Cousins has flown back into a storm of controversy amid court claims of links to an accused gangland killer. As Cousins today begins a new life as a Richmond footballer, police yesterday named the fallen champ in court as being connected to alleged underworld figure Angelo Venditti. "Fat Ange" Venditti is charged with the contract killing of drug dealer Paul Kallipolitis in Sunshine in 2002. Police allege slain underworld hitman Andrew "Benji" Veniamin was the hired gun who carried out the killing. In opposing bail for Mr Venditti in the Supreme Court yesterday, the homicide squad's Sen-Det Tim Bell said the accused killer had been under police surveillance since May. Sen-Det Tim Bell told a court that monitoring and surveillance which began in May this year uncovered Mr Venditti's extensive ties to high-profile sporting, business and criminal identities. He named Cousins, underworld figure Mick Gatto, Perth underworld kingpin John Kizon and accused drug importer Fabian Quaid - also a friend of Cousins - as among Mr Venditti's connections. Last month, only a week before the national draft and just days ahead of a St Kilda board meeting thought then to be critical to his hopes of a return to the game, Cousins flew to Melbourne to attend the funeral of convicted drug trafficker, John Giannarelli. Cousins was quizzed by police in 2005 over a nightclub brawl involving Kizon, an associate of slain standover man Alphonse Gangitano ...

Drug Crime Offenses and Charges

If you've been charged with drug crimes, or have come under investigation for them, hiring a criminal lawyer should be the first thing you do. Many people discount how important it is to have effective legal representation - often at the expense of their freedom. With the money and resources that are available to the prosecution, it's essential that you have the right person on your side.

There are situations where your best option is taking a plea bargain, and there are times when it's best to take your case to trial. Be aware that public defenders or less experienced attorneys are more likely to want to get your case taken care of as quickly as possible and are likely to push you into taking a plea bargain. A devoted and experienced attorney, on the other hand, will be in a better position to weigh the pros and cons of your options and help you make the right choice.

It's also important to realize that drug charges can be confusing. Often when a person is charged with drug related offenses, there will be many different charges against them. Understanding the difference between possession, possession with intent and drug trafficking shouldn't be up to you. Choose a criminal lawyer who understands the nuances involved in the various charges and who can help to reduce them, have them dismissed or win a case in front of a jury.

In some cases, a judge will be willing to consider alternatives to prosecution and imprisonment, such as a drug rehabilitation program. You might be eligible for a program that can keep you out of jail and keep a conviction off your record. When you choose a lawyer who's skilled at drug criminal defense, they'll know every option that's available and can help you to find a way to get out of a sticky situation.

Another thing to keep in mind is that being an effective criminal lawyer requires a deep understanding of human nature. Whether your attorney is trying to sway a judge, the jury or the prosecution, a skilled lawyer will know the best ways in which to present evidence and how to make a strong case for your criminal defense. They'll also know how to handle delicate situations that are sometimes uncomfortable for everyone involved.

Finally, it's important to realize that you need to have an attorney on your side with whom you feel comfortable discussing your case. Too often the accused will end up with an attorney who judges them, doesn't listen to the specifics of their case, or otherwise makes them feel less than confident in and comfortable with their criminal defense. It's essential that you're sharing all relevant information with your attorney, so be sure you choose someone you feel comfortable confiding in.

The bottom line when it comes to choosing an attorney is that you need to have experience on your side. Choose an attorney who's dealt with similar cases in the past, and has had positive results.

H. Pylori Agents - Drug Works

Type of Drug

H. pylori agent; anti-ulcer drug.

How The Drug Works

This drug, when combined with other drugs, acts as an anti-infective to help eliminate the bacteria that is responsible for many cases of peptic ulcer disease.

Uses

Used in combination with clarithromycin to treat active duodenal ulcers caused by H. pylori infection. Do not use ranitidine bismuth citrate alone.

Clarithromycin Therapy: If H. pylori infection is not eradicated after ranitidine bismuth citrate and clarithromycin treatment, the infection may be resistant to clarithromycin. Any patients who do not respond to this therapy should not be retreated with a regimen containing clarithromycin.

Darkening of The Tongue: The bismuth may cause a temporary and harmless darkening of the tongue or stool. Stool darkening should not be confused with blood in the stool.

Pregnancy: Adequate studies have not been done in pregnant women, or animal studies may have shown a risk to the fetus. Use only if clearly needed and potential benefits outweigh possible risks to the fetus.

Breastfeeding: It is not known if ranitidine bismuth citrate appears in breast milk. Consult your doctor before you begin breastfeeding.

Children: Safety and effectiveness in children have not been established.

Drug Interactions

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or planning to take any overthe-counter or prescription medications or dietary supplements while taking this medicine. Doses of one or both drugs may need to be modified or a different drug may need to be prescribed. The following drugs and drug classes interact with this medicine:

Antacids

Aspirin

Side Effects

Every drug is capable of producing side effects. Many patients experience no, or minor, side effects. The frequency and severity of side effects depend on many factors including dose, duration of therapy and individual susceptibility. Possible side effects include:

Digestive Tract: Diarrhea; nausea; vomiting; constipation.

Nervous System: Headache; dizziness.

Other: Itching; gynecological problems; taste changes; sleep problems; chest pain.

Guidelines for Use

The usual dose of ranitidine bismuth citrate is 400 mg twice a day for 4 weeks in conjunction with c1arithromycin 500 mg three times a day for the first 2 weeks.

Both ranitidine bismuth citrate and clarithromycin may be taken without regard to food.

If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the nextdose, do not double the dose in order to "catch up" (unless advised to do so by your doctor). If more than one dose is missed or it is necessary to establish a new dosage schedule, contact your doctor or pharmacist. Use exactly as prescribed.

The bismuth may cause a temporary and harmless darkening of the tongue or stool. Stool darkening should not be confused with blood in the stool.

Subjugating Humanity Part One - Who is Running Earth?

From: Earth survey ship "Look Lively"
To: Mission Operations, Arcturus IX
Subject: Summary of analysis of Earth's political system.

There are four questions that have been bugging our learned colleagues back on Arcturus IX.

The first is:"Who is running Earth?" The second is "How are they doing it?" The third is "Are they sane?" The fourth is "Why do the people of Earth put up with it?"

Our year of study and survey of this planet has enabled us to throw some light on these questions, although the answers that have emerged do admittedly require some suspension of disbelief. As the old Klingon adage goes: "You couldn't make this stuff up!"

We feel obliged to stress before you start reading this summary or the 895,537 page report that accompanies it [translator's note:: this "accompanying report" did not arrive with the message herein translated and it is not known what it contained specifically]that we did not make any of this up and we are not cranked up on venusian hypers, neither is this a spoof in celebration of the forthcoming festival of Montee Pi Thon.

Our findings are the inescapable conclusions that derive from our year of meticulously documented observation and study. We are, in other words, dead serious.

We feel equally obliged to apologize in advance for certain quirks you are bound to notice in our narrative: after 365 geosynchronous orbits of this planet just twelve miles above a native settlement called Los Angeles there has been some inevitable brain damage.

The three most notable symptoms we have experienced thus far have been loss of the ability to spell, loss of...can't remember the second one, we'll get back to you on that... and a shrinkage of our attention span down to a mere.

We are nearly out of toilet rolls so wish to remind Supplies to make sure a shipment of Blissful Rectum (yellow) goes on the next supply ship before we are forced to cannibalise the nappies built into the emergency space suits. Also a meteor strike punctured cargo pod 33, resulting on the venting of our entire supply of Scent of Chlorine air freshener into the interplanetary ether, so if you would tell.

Our conclusions about Earth's political system are as follows:

Earth does indeed have an emperor or equivalent potentate. All evidence points to control or attempted control by a single person (or entity).

Humans prefer to be controlled anonymously, by someone they cannot see. If they see the real controlling entity they are likely to go mad and become viciously cynical and sarcastic and make his or her (or its) life not worth living.

Humans therefore indulge in a perennial game called "politics" in which the real emperor hides from view and ordinary humans of average or below average intelligence pretend to be the leaders.

Being without something called "scruples" is required of anyone who aspires to the status of pretend leader (known variously as prime minister or president). We are not sure what these "scruples" are as we have not yet seen any in the course of our studies of the planetary tribal elites. It would appear they are very rare even though they all insist they have them.

All the remaining humans pretend they do not know any of this and honor the pretend leader according to custom by either deifying him or heaping abuse on him.

The pretend leader responds by a customary breaking of sacred tribal laws and then starting one or perhaps two wars with another tribe (or his own tribe if the other tribes are too busy) and then rapidly turning grey, aging prematurely, losing the ability to tell the truth and engaging in the customary rewarding of his pals known as "messing up the economy," before finally making way for a new pretend leader so the ritual can begin again.

The ousted pretend leader then spends time writing memoirs and "speaking after dinner" in which he pretends he was really a great statesman after all and "right all along" about almost everything.

The remaining humans meanwhile engage in a game called "Political Debate" in which they insult one another, hurl false facts at one another unencumbered by any obligation to know what they are talking about and explain how they could have run the planet better than the pretend leader (or the real leader, were they to admit his existence).

One of the evident advantages of this system is that the pretend leader and his accomplices give all the other humans someone they can feel superior to.

Once a pretend leader has been supplanted by a new pretend leader, the mass of humans then forget all the crimes committed by the ex-pretend leader while he was in power and "let him off" or give him lots of money, directorships and so forth.

The real emperor meanwhile continues to run the planet in peace. It would appear however that the real emperor is in fact a lunatic because, although allowed to run Earth's affairs without interference, he is evidently running the planet into the ground and trying to kill most or all of its population.

He appears too to amuse himself by inducing various large groupings of humans to fight and kill one another or he creates bad situations and watches the humans run around hysterically and somehow muddle through and keep the show on the road, rather in the way one pokes a hive with a stick.

This leads us to suspect that the hidden emperor may in fact be a god (albeit one in need of counseling) or perhaps a representative of another, alien, species that plans to settle the planet once it has gotten rid of the humans.

If the latter is the case, then we suspect a being from a planet with a hot, methane/carbon dioxide atmosphere such as Tharg, as much of Earth's industry at the service of the emperor appears already devoted to tharganizing Earth, with the process of tharganization about 25% complete.

Earth's political system, in summary has the hidden emperor at the top. Immediately below him (or it) in seniority is a stratum known as "banking" and immediately subordinate to the banks come entities called "multinational corporations," among which the makers of drugs figure prominently.

The purpose of drugs, which we will cover more fully later, is to lower the IQ of and socially incapacitate what the elite refer to as "riffraff." This serves the useful purpose of preventing ordinary members of the herd becoming "too clever by half" or actually paying attention to the world around them and helps them enter a peaceful state of zombyism or (preferably) death.

Below the cartels come the regional management entities operating as herdsmen that keep the somewhat unruly (unless drugged) humans in check. These are known as "governments" and it is these that are headed by the pretend leaders and which are presented to the human herds as the ruling entities. As indicated above, the humans then act as if they believe that the regional herdsmen, the "governments," are running things and blame them for everything.

All governments meanwhile blame all the other governments for everything. It is a tradition or perhaps instinct for everybody on Earth to blame everybody else and to assign the cause of any trouble to people or entities a long way off and (preferably) unable to defend themselves.

We note here that humans have evolved a strange quirk we call "contradiction blindness," in which they are able hold two conflicting ideas at the same time, believing both equally without apparently experiencing any adverse mental reaction apart from a vague uneasy feeling that the planet is being run by idiots.

By way of example, all humans fully know that one cannot believe anything one reads in the newspaper, while believing everything they read in a newspaper.

As we are developing a headache we pause here for a shot of Euphoricon and a brisk walk around the observation deck. We will resume this report in the next telemetric burst.

Teen Drug Addiction - Easy Ways to Tackle the Problem

Drug addiction is crippling the society these days. The worst thing about drug abuse is teenage involvement. Nowadays, a number of children are engaged to be addicted to dangerous drugs at tender ages. In addition, family members are unaware of the habits of their kids. With the easy availability of drugs, it becomes difficult to prevent young minds to prevent teenage addiction.

Among the most popular drugs are marijuana and alcohol that can actually ruin the future of any teenager. Many children get addicted to drugs and alcohol as they see someone in the family having these drugs. Many children try drugs due to heavy pressure from their peer groups. It is commonly seen that due to domestic violence or any other abuse, children try their hands in drugs as it gives instant relief. Some try as a result of curiosity and later on becomes addicted by taking frequent doses. Taking heavy doses at a regular interval can create a lot of trouble and thus, spoil the future life of a child. Thus, the need is to strictly follow measures that restrict the free sale of dangerous drugs and alcohol for children. Putting a ban on the easy access of alcohol and other harmful drugs can somewhat help in spreading of dangerous drugs in the market.

Education is the best way to create awareness on the topics such as alcoholism and drug abuse. Parents and teachers should discuss ill consequences of taking drugs. Children should be educated about pros and cons of alcohol and its impacts. Parents can check their behavior and habits as well. They should be conscious enough not to encourage any kind of drug use at home. They should also try to maintain a happiness and peace of home so that a child won't feel disturbed and alone. Make a healthy relationship with your child and together nurture a healthy and happy future.

Let's Focus on Helping Criminals Change!

The 1960s was a watershed decade in the United States, and maybe worldwide, and particularly the year 1968. For example, in 1961, voters elected John F. Kennedy as the nation's first president who was also a Catholic. That was the same year that Barack Obama was born on April 4 in Hawaii. On August 28, 1963, Martin Luther King gave his now famous "I Have a Dream" speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial during the March on Washington. On Nov. 22 that same year President Kennedy was assassinated while riding in a motorcade in downtown Dallas, Texas. Soon thereafter, Dallas police arrested Lee Harvey Oswald, subsequently charging him with the gunshot death of a Dallas police officer, J.D. Tippit, and the Kennedy assassination as well. Two days later Jack Ruby, a Dallas businessman, gunned Oswald down as he was being transferred from the police headquarters to the Dallas County jail. "

"The Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Pub.L. 88-352, 78 Stat. 241, July 2, 1964) was a landmark legislation in the United States that outlawed segregation in the US schools and public places. First conceived to help African Americans, the bill was amended prior to passage to protect women in courts, and explicitly included white people for the first time. It also started the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. In order to circumvent limitations on the federal use of the Equal Protection Clause handed down by the Civil Rights Cases, the law was passed under the Commerce Clause. Once it was implemented, its effects were far reaching and had tremendous long-term impacts on the whole country. It prohibited discrimination in public facilities, in government, and in employment, invalidating the Jim Crow laws in the southern US. It became illegal to compel segregation of the races in schools, housing, or hiring. Powers given to enforce the bill were initially weak, but were supplemented during later years."(From Wikipedia).

The National Voting Rights Act of 1965 (United States Code" outlawed the requirement that would-be voters in the United States take literacy tests to qualify to register to vote, and it provided for federal registration of voters in areas that had less than 50% of eligible minority voters registered. The Act also provided for Department of Justice oversight to registration, and the Department's approval for any change in voting law in districts that had used a "device" to limit voting and in which less than 50% of the population was registered to vote in 1964." (From Wikipedia)

On April 4, 1968, a gunman assassinated Dr. Martin Luther King as he stood on the balcony outside his room in the Lorraine Hotel in Memphis, Tennessee, and 61 days later, June 5, 1968, a gunman shot presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy as he left a speaking engagement at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles, California. Kennedy died the next day.

The 1960s was a watershed decade for me personally. Convicted for the first time on Dec. 17, 1959, I spent most of the 1960s in and out of prison. I was released for the first time in May 1962 and was back in prison in August 1963. Released on parole in December 1965, I returned to prison in July 1966. My final release came on Dec. 9, 1968.

The nearly four decades since 1968 has been a watershed time in this country as well.

During the early 1970s, the nation's prison population was less than 250,000 inmates, but between 1970 and 2005, the number of prisoners ballooned eight-fold to more than 2.2 million incarcerated individuals. A report released in February 2008 by the Pew Charitable Trusts estimates that the number of prisoners will increase by 192,000 between now and 2012. This prison population growth could cost taxpayers another 27.5 billion.

In 1976, Charles Colson, a former aide to former President Richard M. Nixon, launched Prison Fellowship Ministries, now one of the oldest and largest efforts in the nation to reduce prison populations. Another such group, though not particularly faith-based, is a public policy organization in Washington, DC called C.U.R.E. (Citizens United (for the) Rehabilitation (of) Errants. This organization began in 1972 in Texas, and now operates internationally from its headquarters in Washington, DC. Just for transparency purposes, I am working to launch a C.U.R.E. chapter in North Carolina.

Here's a sampling of prison ministries, anti-recidivism programs and reentry efforts operating around the country. The year these programs launched is in parenthesis: (1893) Wheeler Mission Ministries, Indianapolis; (1954) St. Leonard's Ministries, Chicago; (1958) Teen Challenge International, Missouri; (1972) C.U.R.E., Washington, DC; (1976) Prison Fellowship, Washington, DC; (1992) New Horizons Ministries, Colorado, Islamic Health and Human Services, Detroit; (1993) Helping Up Mission--Spiritual Recovery Program, Baltimore, Detroit Transition of Prisoners (a PFM initiative); (1994) Prodigal Ministries, Kentucky; (1995) Conquest Offender Reintergration Ministries, Washington, DC, Inner-City Muslim Action Network, Chicago; (1996) Women At The Well House Ministries, Texas; (1997) Project Blanket, Pennsylvania; (1999) Episcopal Social Services--Network Program, New York; (2000) Amachi, Pennslyvania; (2001) Keystone Ministries, Mississippi, Men of Valor, California; (2002) Court Services and Offender Supervision Agency--Faith Community Partnership, Washington, DC. This sampling represents just the tip of an iceberg of various efforts designed to help criminals to become contributing citizens.

As you can clearly see, these various efforts--this reentry movement--as my good friend Joe Williams terms it-- have launched during the spectacular eight-fold growth of the prison population in the United States.

With that background, let's consider the central questions of this article: 1) Why have prison populations increased more than eightfold during the past 40 years, despite the gargantuan efforts of anti-recidivism programs and various other re-entry strategies? 2) Why have I managed to stay away from crime and prison for the past 40 years?

As I have observed, even worked alongside several of the anti-recidivism and reentry programs over the years, including some work with Prison Fellowship during the 1990s, I have concluded that far too many programs, ministries, etc. focus on changing the system, rather than helping criminals to change. I am certainly not denying that much about our failed criminal justice system needs changing. Rather, I contend that in order to move progressively along the Change Continuum, criminals must change whether the system does or not.

About 40 years ago, when I got out of prison, the deck was stacked high against a former criminal and prison inmate who was released and wanted to change. For example, I tried to enroll in two business schools in Durham, NC during 1969. Both turned me down. I knew, though, that I needed to become better educated, not because academic credentials would make my trek from crime to contribution any easier, but because I needed the knowledge and the understanding to continue my progress toward personal transformation. Therefore, I mapped my own educational program, learning to conquer challenges as they appeared before me. By contrast, I got my first job after prison just two weeks following my release--Dec. 24, 1968. I worked as a member of the janitorial crew at the long since defunct Jack Tar Hotel in Durham.

Now as I reflect on 40 years of the following four trends, I see a clear conclusion. Before I share the conclusion, consider the four trends: 1) the eight-fold growth of prison populations; 2) the roller coaster like increase and decline of crime rates; 3) the steady growth of anti-recidivism and reentry programs; 4) my personal transformation from criminal to contributing citizen. Now the conclusion: I have succeeded in the arduous trek from crime to contribution because I changed, whether systems improved or not.

For the remainder of this article, I share with you my personal change process. I recommend it highly for anyone who wants to successfully negotiate the Change Continuum.

Near the beginning of my transformation process, I adopted a personal mission statement that I have refined and expanded several times since adopting this core value: "My personal mission in life is to win the war of self by learning to fully live in the seven freedoms that Jesus, the Christ, purchased for us with His death on the cross millennia ago. In this context, I define "self" as the residue impact of my sinful nature that remains primarily in my memory, following my miraculous new birth as a child of God. The seven freedoms are as follows: 1) Freedom to live fully in the Word of God; 2) Freedom to live fully by faith; 3) Freedom to live fully, trusting in the hope of the gospel; 4) Freedom to live fully according to the principles of love; 5) Time freedom; 6) Financial freedom; and 7) Debt freedom.

During the 40 years of my personal transformation, I've learned to build my new life on the foundation of a set of core values that I've termed the 40 Powerful Principles of Transformation. I learned to organize these 40 principles into the following seven categories: 1) The thinking and perspective principles; 2) The effectiveness principles; 3) the planning principles; 4) the continual action principles; 5) the daily application principles; 6) the C.A.R.E. principles; 7) the T.E.A.M principles.

I am working on an E-book that explains these principles in detail. I plan to have it ready by my 40th anniversary--Dec. 9, 2008. In summary, it all boils down to this: let's teach criminals how to change, whether systems change or not. I have learned that I can live successfully, even when surrounded daily by people who fail.

I have spent almost 40 years mastering the principles of how to stay out of crime and prison. I am now an expert and I want to share this expertise with others. For more information, please visit http://www.miltoncjordansr.com/index.cfm?id=4901&fuseaction=browse&pageid=55

California DUI Attorney Facts

You already know that California DUI attorneys specialize in helping you through an arrest for driving under the influence of either alcohol or drugs, but what exactly can they do for you? Here are some California DUI facts for your information.

Fact: California DUI attorneys can counsel you on the law. The DUI laws in the state of California are complex. Part of a lawyer's job is to put its provisions in simple terms, so that you can understand your situation, know your rights and intelligently explore your options. Do not hire lawyers who 'guarantee' results - remember that no two DUI cases are alike, and the decision of the court varies from one case to another. Anything can go wrong, but a good California DUI lawyer will present you with viable alternatives.

A good lawyer will use all legal means necessary to annul the case filed against you, or at least lower your penalties to the minimum. He or she may gather evidences supporting your defense by asking a private laboratory to redo your blood alcohol test, photograph the arrest or accident location, reinvestigating if the police procedure you were subjected follows the letter of the law, etc. The lawyer should obtain alternative penalties such as drug or alcohol rehabilitation programs and community service, among others.

The lawyer may also make court motions to suppress the evidence against you if there are grounds, such irregular calibration of the breathalyzer machine used to measure your sobriety, proof that your blood alcohol was below the legal limit (.08%) when you were arrested, an arresting officer's procedural mistakes (such as not advising you that refusal to take a breath or a blood test has grave consequences), indications that you were not driving when the arrest was made, evidence of environmental conditions that impeded you from driving normally, etc. A successful motion can help get your case dismissed.

Strategies to Avoid Relapse to Drugs - Strategy Two, Fill the Gigantic Hole Left by Drug Addiction

Addiction to a drug or to alcohol is an all-consuming compulsion, one which demands attention, almost to the exclusion of all else. It can be a full-time job for the addict. Getting drugs or alcohol and consuming them, then being stoned or drunk occupies a large portion of their time.

In the case of drugs such as heroin or cocaine, using is definitely a morning to night occupation. The addict will wake up and look to see how much drug there is for that day's consumption. If the supply is low, the planning of how to get more of the drug takes up the morning's activities. Faked prescriptions, phone calls to borrow money, scams, and other methods of getting the price of drugs together is always first on the to-do list.

A professional, a regular father or mother with an addiction to prescription drugs must spend huge amounts of time and energy getting and using their drugs, and then hiding their activities.

Removing drug addiction from your life has the magnificent benefit returning all that attention and time. Freeing up the actions and the communication feels wonderful. All the feelings of guilt and shame begin to heal and the future is wide open.

Strategy 2

Get busy and use that new free time!

The first few months off of drugs is a very delicate period for anyone. The urges can come often and sometimes hard. Thoughts of using will be occurring at the most inopportune times.

What is the old expression? "An idle mind is the devil's workshop." Free time is NOT a good thing right now.

A new project, a hobby or plunging into work with a vengeance can make this period go by faster and much easier. Everyday you stay off drugs brings you closer to the time when your addiction is just a memory.

You might not feel like doing anything at all, but you need to pour the effort into it and get your butt up and make something happen. Being drug-free is great, even if it does not feel so great yet. But it is not worth much if you do not actually go out and accomplish something, something that you can be proud of. A little overwork could be a good thing to take your mind off drugs.

The pull of addiction will be much less if your attention is fully outward and you are focused on something that you are doing that is worthwhile. Remember, you have a life to rebuild and you cannot rebuild it when you are sitting around, trying to resist. You are actually intensifying the urges by wallowing in your cravings. The sooner you let those go, the sooner they will begin to let up.

Keep your attention outward and forward. More on that in the next article:

Women's Rehab Centers Offer Specialized, Holistic Treatments

The use of drugs and other prohibited, addictive substances are not limited to men. The emergence of women's rehab in many places in the United States is a testament to this fact. They are also an effort to deliver specialized treatment options for females who have fallen prey to substance abuse and who wish to get on the road from their addiction to recovery.

The programs at women-only recovery centers are designed with the specific needs of women in mind. They feature all the standard procedures to help women recuperate, such as the flushing out of substances from their body through detoxification, eventually allowing them to overcome their form of substance dependence.

Aside from facilitating their physiological healing, women's rehab centers also develop programs to allow their guests to get better emotionally, such as sessions which focus on helping women get in touch with their spirituality that they may have lost during their struggle with addiction.

A change of environment is vital in women's recovery. Many cases of women's addiction and substance abuse can be traced to an emotional trigger - a past traumatic event or conflict. This is more evident in women with a dual diagnosis, or those who are suffering from a mental condition such as depression and anxiety, which overlaps their addiction.

By staying in a place that is conducive for healing, women do not only get over their addiction, their emotional issues are also addressed. With a more holistic approach, women are expected to achieve a sense of wholeness that will prevent further cases of substance abuse and relapse.

Located in an exclusive neighborhood in Southern California, Harmony Place offers a peaceful place for the recovery of females who are accustomed to a well-appointed way of life. This women's rehab has developed programs to help its guests overcome their physical, mental and emotional issues. Visit HarmonyPlace.net or call 1-888-866-9778 for more information.

Under the bridge, red hot chili peppers.AVI

Red Hot Chili Peppers is an American rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1983. The band's current line-up is Anthony Kiedis (vocals), Michael "Flea" Balzary (bass), Chad Smith (drums) and Josh Klinghoffer (guitar). Their musical style has fused traditional funk with elements of other genres including hip hop, punk rock and psychedelic rock. The group originally featured guitarist Hillel Slovak and drummer Jack Irons. Slovak, however, died of a heroin overdose in 1988, resulting in Irons' departure.[1] Irons was replaced briefly by former Dead Kennedys drummer DH Peligro before the band found a permanent replacement in Smith, while Slovak was replaced by up-and-coming guitarist John Frusciante. This lineup recorded the band's fourth and fifth albums, Mother's Milk (1989) and Blood Sugar Sex Magik (1991). Blood Sugar Sex Magik was a significant record for the band; having sold over thirteen million copies, it provided the group's initial mainstream commercial success. Frusciante grew uncomfortable with this new found success and left abruptly in the middle of the tour for the album in 1992, descending into heroin addiction. After recruiting guitarist Arik Marshall to finish the tour, Kiedis, Flea, and Smith employed Dave Navarro of Jane's Addiction for their subsequent album, One Hot Minute (1995). Although fairly successful, it did not match the critical acclaim of Blood Sugar Sex Magik and sold less than half the copies of its predecessor. Shortly afterwards, Navarro ...

Drug Diversion Programs in California

California Drug Diversion Programs were designed to rectify imbalances with respect to drug crime punishment and rehabilitation. Facing over crowded and over burdened prisons and state budget shortfalls, the state adopted two programs, the PC 1000 Drug Diversion Program and the Substance Abuse and Crime Prevention Act of November 2000. (Proposition 36)

These programs exist to provide drug offenders with rehabilitation options that do not involve incarceration.

To qualify for a drug diversion program, the offender must meet several criteria:

  1. He or she must have had no prior convictions for the alleged drug offense.

  2. The offense committed must have not been violent.

  3. The defendant cannot have been on a parole or probation. If the defendant had once been on a parole or probation and had that privilege revoked, he or she would cease to qualify for the drug diversion program.

  4. The defendant must have had no felony convictions dating back five years prior to the alleged drug offense.

  5. The defendant cannot have had taken a previous drug diversion program.

Data gathered by groups like the Division of Alcohol and Substance Abuse point out the many wide scale benefits of alternative treatment programs. On average, they cost far less than incarceration. They also seem to save money on state healthcare costs and general productivity. Successful graduates of these programs on average boast a lower recidivism rate (i.e. rate at which they commit future drug crimes). Finally, according to the data, drug diversion programs seem to boost safety within communities and reduce overall criminal activity.

Researchers at the University of California Los Angeles have studied the impact of the Substance Abuse and Crime Prevention Act and have lauded the program for reaching and exceeding its goals-although they do say that it's currently under funded. The PC 1000 program requires treatment for an extended time for its participants but also provides a diverse array of services, including therapy sessions, group meetings, twelve step programs and schooling and information on HIV AIDS, TB, and other pertinent drug related issues.

To take advantage of alternative sentencing, however, defendants must not only qualify for these programs but also comply with their stipulations. An experienced drug crime attorney in Los Angeles, like the representatives at Wallin and Klarich, can plan with you to find the best available alternative sentencing options. Call us for a case evaluation today at 888-749-0034.

Deciding to Go to Rehab - How to Make the Leap

It is important to understand that the decision to go to a drug and alcohol rehab is never an easy one to make. Drug and alcohol addiction is something that some people struggle with for years before they decide that getting sober is not something that they can do on their own. It is also important to understand that having a drug addiction is not something that you should be ashamed of. In fact, making the decision to seek out drug and alcohol rehabilitation for your drug or alcohol addiction is quite courageous. It says a lot about your inner strength that you are able to say "I cannot handle this by myself. I need help."

Drug Treatment Centers know that you are probably frightened of what will happen after you pick up the phone to set up your rehabilitation program. The staff of addiction and health experts at centers for drug and alcohol treatment know that, especially in the beginning, many people struggling with drug and/or alcohol addiction are afraid of what they will encounter at drug rehab. It is because the staff is so compassionate that they will do everything they can to ease the transition from struggling with sobriety in the "outside world" to detoxing and regaining your sobriety in a carefully controlled and supportive environment.

It is all fine and good to know that you will be treated well once you've made the decision to go to drug rehab. The problem arises when you aren't sure if going to drug rehab is the right decision. Here are some of the signs that you should look for that will tell you whether or not you are equipped to deal with your drug addiction yourself:

1. The amount of drugs that you need to get drunk, high or stoned has increased dramatically since you first started using. For example-it used to take only a few drinks to get drunk. Now you're downing entire bottles of hard liquor before feeling even buzzed.

2. You start to have physical withdrawal symptoms when it's been a while since your last "fix". Your hands might shake, you might get cold sweats or heart palpitations, you might feel nauseous, etc.

3. You cannot stop yourself from using after "just a little bit." You might intend to just hang out with friends, but you wake up the next morning not remembering the night before.

4. You find that you don't have time for your other interests because getting wasted is more important and you don't have time to do both.

5. Your level of paranoia has increased to the point where you are sure that each person you pass on the street can tell that you have a drug or alcohol problem and you've become very defensive.

6. You are moving up the chain of drugs. While you might have just needed a couple of beers to get wasted when you first started using, now you need pills or other, harder, substances to have the same effect.

7. You have started to take drugs to cure you from the effect of other drugs. Amphetamines in the morning to cure a hangover from the night before. Valium to calm down from too much speed, etc. You cannot let the drugs leave your system naturally.

8. Your family and friends keep trying to get you into a drug or alcohol rehabilitation treatment program.

Overcoming drug addiction and working toward sobriety is difficult, but that is not nearly as difficult as making the first phone call in which you admit that you need help. Asking for help is the strong and sensible thing to do.

And now I invite you to Transformations Drug and Alcohol Treatment Center. You are important. You can change your life. You deserve it. Please call me, Matthew Brindisi, right now at 866-211-5538 and speak to me or one of my staff. Download a free brochure.

Strategies to Avoid Relapse to Drugs - Strategy One, Control Your Environment

Do you, or does someone close to you keep falling back into using the same addictive drug, only to find that the addiction is even worse than before? This is called drug relapse.

A part of drug addiction is this on again, off again pattern of binging and abstaining, binging and abstaining. It can go on for quite a while and look like the addiction isn't progressing. The truth is the addiction only seems to be staying the same while it is continuing to worsen.

Periods of abstinence can be a blessing or a curse, depending on the outcome.

Getting away from the drug for a while can give an addict a chance to see the problem more clearly and to make choices for the future that seemed impossible while they were getting high everyday. These choices can lead their life into the light again and away from the grip of drug addiction.

On the other hand, taking a short "break" from addictive drugs might carry with it some dangers. With most addictive drugs, the tolerance built up by an addict's body to that substance can subside over time. So on the next relapse, the danger of over-dose is much higher because the former dosage might now be large enough to be deadly.

There are some actions to take that can reduce the possibility of reversion to drugs. Remember, drugs were once a way of life for the addict. Now life must change.

Strategy One:

1. You must surround yourself with drug-free people.

The life that the you led while getting stoned revolved around drug use and drug users. Those are not the circles a drug-free individual travels in.

But spending time with people who are not into drugs and the druggie life will do more than avoid reminders and temptations. There is a new life style to be learned and that can best be done by spending time with drug-free individuals and doing activities that do not involve drugs. Also, people who don't use and have your welfare at heart will support your efforts to stay clean. Often, friends and associates see the signs that an addict's resolve is slipping even before the addict sees it and can step in to help when it really counts.

It even happens that a drug addict gives up on himself more quickly than his friends give up on him. So these people can also be a lifeline in case apathy sets in.

Hanging around the places where the drugs are easily available is not likely to happen if the new "gang" is opposed to illegal drug use. So these people are good for your recovery, even if they do seem a bit "dorky" to begin with.

Before long, you'll start seeing the changes in yourself that your friends saw first. You're on your way to ending addiction and leaving the drug nightmare behind you.

Second Chance Programs, JSettles2

Comments With Dr. James Haney Presents*Second Chance Programs, with JSettles, founder of a house of rehabilitation for former prison inmates, who have been convicted, served their time, and need a second chance in coming back into society, Part 2 This Video has Enhanced Text (et)*drjhaney Homicide among black males is an alarming problem and is often drug related, according to Dr. Winbush, but the statistics are not clear. There is an "increase in violence in places like Washington, DC, while Los Angeles, for example, has manifested a sharp decrease in the past year in spite of the gang problems. After the 1992 riot a truce was called between two of the worst street gangs in LA history, the Crips and the Bloods. There has been virtually no violence between these two gangs since this truce. Before the truce there were 20 to 30 of them dying in street violence each month. "There is evidence throughout America that black males are becoming more aware of their own responsibility in dealing with their situation. They are beginning to talk to each other. Black churches have a major role to play in this issue as well as other religious groups, such as the Nation of Islam. The Nation of Islam took Malcolm X out of prison and continues to do the same for others throughout our community," Winbush notes

Anger and Addiction

You may have justifiable reasons for being mean and acting ugly. I am convinced that somewhere someone really hurt you; they betrayed your confidence. They abused you and left you with a memory of misery and pain. It is by far not my intent to be insensitive, but holding on to the pain of the past can cause more damage to yourself than the individual or individuals who injured you. The things we suffer can either make us better or bitter. Such volumes of pain would easily destroy us if we had not found avenues to cope. We needed a way to avoid pain and simultaneously institute a soothing pleasure. Food, cocaine, alcohol, heroine, sex and a number of unnamed addictions became our answer. We knew we could count on them to calm the beast of anger on the inside. Soon, we forgot why we were angry at all. All we knew was we could "fix" the frustration, loneliness, boredom and disappointment with one act of indulgence. One act of indulgence became two and two became three until we found ourselves caught in an infinite, dizzying helix of pleasure and pain.

How deceived we have become. We cover pain with our anger and we cover anger with addiction. All the while the pain festers beneath. It fuels the fire. In brief moments of clarity or we see what we are doing to ourselves. It is at this time we have the courage to say, "I give up", and not on life but on the charade we played so long. We find the courage to face ourselves and the unsightliness inside us.

The rush of rage can produce a similar high to your common street narcotic. The problem is you manufacture the drug in your head. Your mind and your body may be conditioned to "overheat" any time you feel fearful, threatened or insecure. The cravings for anger will not subside quickly. You may need to enlist a variety of coping mechanisms to get you through the tough times.

You should look for someone to talk to. If you look hard enough there may be people already in your life in whom you can trust. If not find someone who has a listening ear. Pastors, priests, therapists and community group members dedicate their lives and time to listening and helping those in crises.

Educate yourself. Reading books or listening to CD's brings a since of self-awareness. When you become self-aware you become better skilled at managing your emotions and controlling your behavior.

How to Choose the Right Drug Detox Rehab Program

Alright, your son or daughter or Uncle Bob has finally decided to get help for addiction. Now what?

If you have ever searched for a drug treatment center before, you know what is ahead, phone calls on top of phone calls and then some very tough decisions.

Some of the questions you need to answer are:

1. Should we go for the treatment facility right here in town or choose one far away?
2. What treatment method will be right for Uncle Bob?
3. How long should the treatment take?
4. Will a religious program be best?
5. How much will it cost?

In the end, the biggest question will be, was it successful?

There are hundreds of drug abuse treatment facilities out there and most hover around a 25% success rate. Success means the addict is no longer addicted and stays stably and permanently off drugs or alcohol. Those are not good odds. It is pretty clear why many experts claim addiction is incurable.

Let's look at our questions.

1. Local or distant?

That one is pretty easy. Drug treatment programs are voluntary. There are no locks on the doors. It has to be that way, the drug user will have to stay off drugs on his or her own willpower in the end. Self-determination is learned by making the right choices. While going through treatment, especially the first portion of treatment, it is best for the person to be in a setting that does not offer a short taxi ride to some well-known drug dealer. So it is very advisable to get them out of the area where they have been using drugs.

2. What method of treatment?

Choose a method that will not end up with the addict still addicted to drugs!! This may sound pretty stupid, but many programs send the addicts packing after an expensive 28 days with pockets full of prescription drugs to which they are now addicted!

3. What length of time should it take for addiction treatment to be completed?

If anyone gives you an exact answer to this one, realize they do not know what they are talking about. No one can give a precise time frame to the completion of a program of this type. The common "28 days" is definitely not based on any kind of science. It is usually just the amount of time for which the insurance companies are willing to pay. Choose a detox rehab program that has no set time limit. Make sure it does not continue to charge more for every week but has a set cost, whether the program takes three months or six months, same price.

4. Will a religious program be right for this particular drug user?

It depends on the individual. If the program is based on religion and every addict who goes through must subscribe to the religion, then a large percentage of addicts will not do well there.

5. How much will treatment cost?

There are no free programs. Even the rare treatment facility that does not cost the patient any money is not free. These are expensive propositions that must be paid for. Usually it is the taxpayers or some charitable foundation who pays. These places are famous for long waiting lists and the old saying, "You get what you pay for." fits here better then most places.

In the end, the location, flexible periods of treatment and the employment of effective treatment methods will make the difference between success and failure for the addict. So get some professional advice and really look into the various offerings. Watch out for any expensive treatment that stresses luxury and short stays or that suggests sedation and other drug therapy. And keeping the user in the same area where all his or her drug connections live...well, what do you think?

He was found at his Los Angeles apartment on Wednesday morning and was pronounced dead at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Centre in Burbank.
